Independent research · Construction software
Contractors choose estimating software from marketing pages and affiliate listicles. We are building the alternative: a product database where every fact carries a source, a verification status, and the date it was last checked.
We separate three things that software comparison sites routinely blur together: Vendor-reported claims, Verified facts, and Independent benchmark results. Only the last comes from a controlled test we ran ourselves.
Software directory
Filter by trade, company size, project type, and the capabilities that determine whether a tool fits how you bid.
Start with the workflow you need to improve: compare digital takeoff software, explore bid management software, or review tools for construction cost estimating.

Comparisons
Every comparison uses one table structure and the same fields, so differences between products are visible rather than argued.
Each trade page has different priorities. Compare dedicated guides for electrical estimating, HVAC estimating workflows, and plumbing estimates and takeoff.
Benchmark programme
Nobody independently measures how these tools perform on the same drawing set. We are building that test. Until it has been run, this page shows a protocol and an empty results table — not estimates.
How long does it take a trained operator to produce a complete material takeoff from a standard residential drawing set?
How closely do the quantities a tool produces match an independently measured control takeoff?
How current is the shipped cost data, and how far does it sit from regional supplier pricing on the test date?
How long does it take to turn a completed estimate into a document that could be sent to a client?
By trade
Estimating a roof and estimating a switchgear package are different problems. Each trade page covers what actually drives cost accuracy in that work.
Roofing estimates hinge on accurate area and pitch measurement, waste factors, and turning a measurement into a signed proposal quickly — often in one visit.
Electrical estimating is assembly-driven: counts of devices, fixtures, and gear expand into material and labor through assemblies, and pricing moves with supplier costs.
HVAC estimating splits sharply between replacement and service quoting on one side and ducted new-construction takeoff on the other. Tools rarely do both well.
Plumbing estimates combine fixture counts, pipe runs by material and diameter, and rough-in labor that varies widely by construction type.
Concrete estimating is volume- and formwork-driven, with placement labor and finish type often outweighing the material cost itself.
General contractors estimate across every division, which shifts the problem from trade depth to aggregation: rolling up subcontractor quotes, self-performed work, and markup into one defensible number.
Transparency
A product record is not a single trustworthy object. Individual fields are checked at different times against different sources, and we show that rather than averaging it away.
